I began upgrading another copy of WSNlinks tonight, and it went more or less smoothly until I started changing some settings and switches. I had just turned off the calendar and some other item (can't remember what) and suddenly began getting 500 server errors. My error log reports:

Post your .htaccess here. "cannot compile regular expression '^?$'\n" sounds like maybe there's a line which went mostly blank. Not seeing any problems with my combination of switches, even with help items on now.
