Not really sure about this but i think that Alexa provides a way for scripts to retrieve the ranking either for free, or for a small fee. Since Alexa rank is the only tool which measures the true quality of a site, i think it is important for a directory script to be able to update this ranking automatically. Don't see anyone else asking for this, but if it can be done i think it's worth it. |

Since Alexa rank is the only tool which measures the true quality of a site, Yeah right. It's absurdly inaccurate. For example, this site ranks far higer than getfirefox.com... and far higher than my forum which has 17,000 members. I think they use a random number generator. The alexa tools I can find are dead: http://www.searchbliss.com/rank.asp http://www.webconfs.com/alexa-ranking-tool.php |

One of them says that the free version no longer exists, probably used by the other one also. You can only compare your site with other script-developers sites, any other comparison is wrong. All content-related sites are visited by the same people and get the Alexa they deserve. When a surfer clicks on a category, he expects to see content-related sites and Alexa can make a real difference here. Sorting sites by title, hits-in, hits-out is very different to sorting them by most-visited/most-pageviewed with a hard-link. The only sites which have problem with Alexa, are the sites who are trying to attract non-relevant seo/PR advertisements, and the sites who are doing non-relevant seo/PR hard-link exchanges. |

PHPLinkDirectory is far and away the most popular directory script, with likely 50 times more users than WSN Links. Take a look at their alexa rank of 1,039,585: http://alexa.com/search?q=phplinkdirectory.org&x=0&y=0 Google pagerank seems considerably more accurate and is already available as a sort order. |

Added alexa graphs, since they allow that. Still no indication that they allow retrieving a numerical ranking. |
