When I submit a link-comment, just for a millisecond or so, a small Console or DOS-like window pops up before WSN tells me that the comment has been created.
I have this in my new wsn-version, but never recognized it before. anyhow, what is that and how can i get rid of it? I bet people don't like small console boxes popping up when surfing a foreign site.. ;]

I just made another test. It pops up while submitting a comment, tested in opera, IE, and firefox. here's a screenshot, it's the windows cmd.exe

Please could u check again if there is sth that gets called.. I guess you can't see it on another OS, and on my system it appears only very very short, was quite hard to get a screenshot to see what it was.. -and: definitely it did not appear in V4.0.30, I would have recognized it

Hi.

hmm,
I'm afraid no. Writing a comment won't send any emails as far as I can remember. And on other templates which try to send emails (e.g. report), such a console doesn't pop up.
Additionally, I never recognized such ting in earlier installs of wsn.

Anyhow, maybe somebody else can recognize this?

Perhaps if you're using a version of windows like XP which has been lobotomized in order to sell the server editions of the OS it may be brain-dead enough to pop open a console every time an OS command is called. Anyhow, presuming you run your real site on a real server it's a non-issue.

Because a shell call was added involved in comment posting.

ah ok I understand.

Calling a shell when posting, could that be problematic in any imaginable way, or is this method often used in forums and secure/stable?

It's very normal. Just the php function shell_exec. Not available on some shared hosting setups, so it's only called if available.
