I am a registered user of WSN Links. I have an old version running and am putting up a new directory using the lastest version now.

I have a client that wants what I think WSN Links can provide easily with some customization. Or would WSN Gallery be a better choice?

Basically, the client wants to see a custom main page that offers categfories to listings. However, the user can also select to show all listings by name (uncategorized - not more than 200 to 300 max).

Once a user clicks on a name link, they are shown the listing. This listing would act as an information page about the organization. It features 3 images and a full page of information about the organization. It is only here that the URL to the organization's site is found and active.

Obviously, the organization can join, upload 3 photos and add the organization information. Admin can approve/edit.

It seems to me that WSN Links is perfect for this non-profit project. It doesn't even seem to require a great deal of customization. Mostly, it would require alphabetical sorting in categories or in a preconfigured search routine. It appears that the design of the system would be the main thing (to me), which I can handle.

But I'd like to hear if I am right, too. How much work would be involved in this project as far as getting the program to act like I expect it to (I know I can handle the design of each page, I'm just talking about getting it to act as I indicate)? Has anyone done this sort of thing berfore?

Basically, it would be acting more like a catalog of organizations than a directory (though it certainly is that as well).

Any input? Ideas? Comments? Warnings?

Thank You! -Doug, Symbiotic Design

The uncategoized-alphabetical would presumably be a toplist in a custom template. The photos would be custom file fields. Information would be other custom field(s), I presume. And of course, you'd be linking to the link details pages instead of to the outgoing link urls (while WSN KB and WSN Gallery would do that as default behavior, it's no problem to use WSN Links for it). From what you've described it doesn't sound too complicated (then again, things always become much more complicated in working on them than they were in thinking about them).

Cool. Paul wrote:

Hmmm... actually, we have no problem with registering one program or the other as this site will require a new reg (for the site owner), anyway. So, maybe we should register WSN Gallery instead of WSN Links. Any decrease in workload no matter how minute will be a time saver. Paul wrote:
