Next issue I am seeing is that even with the appropriate switches checked in admin, guest and member submissions (links) are not being held for approval. They do appear in the admin as pending validation, however, they also appear on the site without being held for that approval. Guest and member comments are being held correctly, so it seems to just be an issue with the original submission.

Not sure which wsnkb version this problem started in since my main site is still at 2.0.28. However, since using 4.1.18 on the test site, guests can submit an item, once they click the submit button they get the 'you don't have permission' page, however, their submission has been posted to the site. I also noticed this issue a month or two ago in wsnlinks when I upgraded the site that uses that script. Due to other issues, I have since reverted the wsnlinks site back to 4.0.42 and the submissions are now being held for approval as they should. So, somewhere in the 4.x upgrades, something may have broke.

This ties in with the auto-generate user accounts in 4.1.18.

Even though I use two different browsers, one I never login to the site with, to avoid cookie issues, I took it a step further and used my husbands computer.

I went to the site as a guest, never registered or logged into the site on his computer.

I submitted an article, added the contributors email address in the box on the submission page.

I was then taken to the 'you don't have access' error page. I then noticed that I was logged in as the new member. So, what happened was that upon submitting the article and entering a new email address, a new member account was auto-generated. The article I submitted was placed on the site immediately, without the need for approval (this should not have happened since I was not logged in and the email address was never used on the site before). Since I was now recognized and logged in as the contributor, I then submitted a second article. This time, the submit article page did not request an email address. When I submitted the second article, I was thanked and the message that the article was being held pending approval was shown (which is what I expected to see when the first article was submitted) and then the redirect took me back to the correct category listing that I submitted the article from. This second article does not appear on the site and is being held in my admin for approval (again which is what was expected).

Fixed.

The article I submitted was placed on the site immediately, without the need for approval (this should not have happened since I was not logged in and the email address was never used on the site before).

Do you auto-approve for members? With autogeneration, the guest becomes a member.

No, both guest and members require approval. The only membergroup set for immediate posting is admin.

I first noticed this back in November on the wsnlinks script so I am surprised that this has not come up with others, especially with the wsnlinks since there appears to be many more using that script. I initially thought it was likely something to do with a setting and since I was going back to an earlier release version because of other issues, I didn't realize that it was a script issue until I installed a clean up-to-date version of wsnkb onto a clean site and that the issue of guest posts not being held for approval was not with my settings but rather with the script.

I don't see how a clean install can behave differently for you than for me, and for me it goes to pending every time I test. Doesn't seem like the sort of thing that could depend on server configuration. Maybe there's a step I'm missing.

This issue was resolved for me in 4.1.19 when you corrected the 'you don't have permission' error so it must have been something tied into that particular error. Thank you!
