Thanks, well I went back to my cpanel and tried adding user to database - no go, then tried recreating database (not reinstalling script files)...same errors.
What else can I try to achieve a correct installation? (tearing my hair out, not much left now).

The interface to adding a user to a database is different for many hosts, I've one with cpanel5 and once the database is created and there is a user, both created from the mySQL page there is a form line with a -add user dropdown- to -database list dropdown- .
also looking at the page my host prepends the user and DB name with my host user account name.
It is scant help, but there is no way to know exactly what sort obstacle your coming against, if you can't get a username connected to the database then there may be a problem with or help found at your host.
