Hello

I am creatinbg a new dorectory and have been setting up categories.

I am creating a business directory and have spent tonight building the category structure. Many of the sub categories belong in several main categories, so as I was adding categories I was selecting secondary categories as needed.

Problem is, I thought secondary categories behaved the same as the original categories, but they dont.

For instnace... I added a sub category called "Accountants" to a category called "Insurance and Finance" and decided that "Accountants" also belonged in a category called "Business Services". Trouble is, I have ended up with two seperate sub categories instead of one sub category listed in two different categories.

I have ended up with...

http://www.click4localbusiness.co.uk/business-ser...
http://www.click4localbusiness.co.uk/insurance-an...

If someone submits a listing to the category at http://www.click4localbusiness.co.uk/insurance-an... it will not also be added to http://www.click4localbusiness.co.uk/business-ser...

Thats the problem, I want it to be so that if a business submits to

http://www.click4localbusiness.co.uk/insurance-an...

They also get listed in

http://www.click4localbusiness.co.uk/business-ser...

This is what I thought would happen by default, but it doesn't. Is there a way to make it do that?

hmm, that's strange, if I understand you correctly. I use secondary categories at one of my sites, and the secondary cat is just a mirror or the main one.

For instance, if you look at http://www.thedogscene.co.uk/dog-breeds/standard-poodle/ this is the category I made first and then selected Poodle in the secondary categories.

You can see the secondary category here http://www.thedogscene.co.uk/dog-breeds/poodle/ shown as a sub-cat, click on Standard Poodle sub cat and you see a mirror

Yeah, thats what I thought should happen. Though your two categories dont look exactly the same.

Nice site by the way, I like that.

It's difficult to work with this when you have 44 HTML errors which presumably explain why it looks like such an unuseable mess. Can't even reach the submission links.

Luckily I can reproduce the problem on my computer, will have a fixed release by tomorrow.

Edit: curious... at first a link submission was only in one of the categories, then after editing the category it showed up in both.

Hi Paul

Yes it is an unusable mess at the moment because I am playing around with design, and have a wrapper on there at the moment that I have only configured main.tpl to be compatible with. Even main.tp, is no where near what it should be.

Anyway, when you release this update, will it fix my existing category structure, or will I need to create all of my categories again?

Thanks
Paul

Regenerating categories should take care of it.
