I'm in the market for a links directory package, and am seriously considering this one. However, I'm also considering a $150 script that has a few options I really like. I'm not against spending some time monkeying with the WSN code to (try to) add these extra features, but I'd like to get an idea beforehand how difficult it would be. For instance:

1) I really really want category-targeted banners. This is my main sticking point. How difficult it would be to add phpAdsNew? Can anyone who's done it give me some hints?

2) One of the features I really liked on the other script is that it makes an entire page with long description for each link. I saw a popup on one of the demo sites that had more link information; could this be done without the popup part? Can I allow sponsored links to have more description text, possibly with HTML?

3) I'd like to be able to send a (crontabbed) daily summary of new links added to users who opt-in to receive it, or a weekly newsletter with a weekly summary, plus articles. Could the "toplist" feature do this?

4) Are such emails archived?

5) I really like the "personal link lists" idea, but in addition to that list I'd also like something similar that functions like a wish list, so members can add a short note to each link they've saved on their list and then email the link to the page to others with a short note.

6) Can I have a moderator capable of editing all categories but not site options?

I realize many of the above probably fall into the category of suggested features, but the banner ad thing and periodic emails with recent links are the most important. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I'll let those who are a little more official and knowledgable answer most of these, I've phpAdsNew so I'll take a shot at ...

1) I haven't worked my phpadsnews into the directory as you asked about, I'm going to though. My plan is to use Direct Selection and set up various banners with keywords matching the titles for the categories then use the the {CATTIITLE} in the invocation to pull the correct banner(s). As I've said I haven't done it yet and ony have played around a little with phpAdsNews but I believe it is possible without too much strain.

2) I don't know what you could mean by that. It sounds like you're just talking about the link details page, I guess, but that's certainly not in a popup in the demo.

You can customize the sponsor link type to show a longer description, and you could also alter the link details page for sponsor link types with conditionals.

3) No, although it's possible to create a toplist of links from the last day or week and email it there's no way to make this a timed action at the moment.

4) All sent emails are logged so that they are visible under 'show email logs'.

5) That could probably be done with a custom field and a lot of template customization, and would need some conditionals in the 'suggest link' template as well or else you might want to just overlay a custom template over that one for link list additions.

6) You can assign a usergroup the permissions to be able to edit everything but still not have admin panel access.
