How do I display all my sub categories under the top categories on the main page?

And to also display cats of sub cats (etc) on other pages?

I tried "General Appearance" - "Max subcategories to
show on main page:" - change the number - click "Update Settings"

But this had no effect.

Please advise

Thank you

I think the problem is with adding multiple sub-catagories at one time.

on my site if I add each subcat on it's own the sub-catagories show up fine:

Example 1

but the ones I added as subcats all at once only show a few:

Example 2

Paul, is this a bug? or a setting we're missing?

You probaly have to regenerate the category selector after changing the setting. (This may depend on your version, 3.12 should do that automatically.)

Can you clarify what you mean by this and provide an example.

Click 'regenerate counters' in your admin panel. Might also be worth a try to regenerate categories.

okay here's the problem and solution, for anyone that wants to know.

Following these steps I could create the problem:

1) I start by adding a new top level category. let's say "Example Category"

2) I then add two subcategories called "Example SubCategory 1"and "Example SubCategory 2"

3) In "Example SubCategory 1" I then add 10 sub-subcategories, one at a time called "subsubcat01" through to "subsubcat10"

4) Then for "Example SubCategory 2" I add all 10 sub-subcategories at one time using this method
"subsubcat01[,]subsubcat02[,]subsubcat03[,]subsubcat04 [,]subsubcat05[,]sub subcat06[,]subsubcat07[,]subsubcat08[,]subsubcat09[,]subsubc at10"

Now if we look at the "Example Category" there is a problem...

"Example SubCategory 2" isn't showing all of the subsubcatXX's under it while "Example SubCategory 1" is.

In 3.10 I ran 'regenerate counters' and 'regenerate categories'

but the problem was still there...so then I upgaded to 3.12 ...still have the problem..

Solution: In 3.12 under the Maintenance menu ...click 'regenerate counters' then click regenerate everything

Once this was done the problem was fixed.
