When someone is adding a new link, if they copy and paste a description into the descrption text box, the max # of characters feature doesn't work. I've had several people copy and paste a huge description way over my limit and submit it successfully. Until the person (or admin) clicks into the text box, the description will remain over the limit.

Well, it's just template javascript. Anyone know of javascript that would prevent that?

{LINKDESCRIPTION}

adding the last javascript items 'onBlur' seems to work, when the textarea is exited the function will run cutting of the description at setting's characters. On little problem is seems the character count won't update unless clicked in and out of the box again.

Empty box counts 1000, paste in 1000+ characters of text. When clicking out of the box the description length is trimmed to 1,000 characters, but the counter text input box below stays at '1000 characters remaining'. Click back in and out of the description box one more time and the count updates to 0 characters left. It isn't a 100% perfect solution, but it will trim the description to the correct length.

I'm looking to alert the person that their description is too long and not let them continue until they fix it. Otherwise I can see ending up with chopped off descriptions. Any way to do this when they hit submit, and have it act much like how it would act if you left a mandatory field incomplete?

when the description reaches the limit characters an alert will come up, the counter box will still work with keystrokes and still not work with the onBlur, but the onBlur will prompt the alert.
