I have been trying to build navigation links to show on all of the individual category pages. In the same way the index page shows links to all the categories, I want a vertical link bar to do the same thing to put on other pages. I don't want to do this in html of course as it (the link bar) will become outdated when I add or delete categories.
I have been trying to build this using the toplist generator. No luck. Can the toplist generator do this, and if so what toplist do I pick?

You want a toplist of categories. Are these only top level categories? If so, use the condition parent=0
