Search Engine Optimization with WSN Link morton82 SE Spiders can foolow 301 and 302? I did not know that.

And nofollow tag seems to be a myth sice some webmasters said that might be good or might be bad. And if i put a nofollow tag on every link, that will be a lot of nofollows.

Talking about shady stuff, i use a javascipt onmouseover trick to hide affiliate links. Is this recommended?

Also, i heard that the onclick trick can be used to prevent pr from passing. From WW forum.

Search Engine Optimization with WSN Link morton82 For directory websites, which one is better for external links considering the following?

1)Use direct url when linking to external links, e.g. http://externallink.com
2)Use the tracking feature of WSN links, e.g http://mysite.com/links/1234
3)Use a frame to frame out external links( Thanks Synozeer), e.g. http://mysite.com/frame.php?id=1234
4)use the rel="nofollow

Considering the first option, i guess most directory sites using this have a low pagerank. Am i correct? Because most pageranks are passed to outside links. And search engines will see your pages as no content because you only link out to others.

For second option, i was using the tracking and found it useful. I guess most directory websites using this have high page rank because of no external links at all. But since someone said in somewhere that this triggers the Google penalty because of webmasters 302 others page.

For third, some webmasters are suggesting not to use this because of ehtical issue. Masking others link are not ethical for some webmasters.

For fourth, never tried this, might give it a try?

What is your opinion? Feel free to correct me if i am wrong. I am still debating with myself of which options should i choose here.

How to make the viewcomments template morton82 Hi,

I was modifying the category pages and would like to know how to make the comments pages not using the same customwrapper of category. For example, i have cat1 as books. so there will be 10 links on each category. I have set cat1 to use a 120x600 ads on the left hand side bottom of the page. But since the viewcomment page is not so long, i would like to remove the ad from the viewcomment page instead of letting the ad spanning the whole page down at the bottom.

Do i make this clear?

Open links in a new window or same morton82 Hi,

I would like to know whether there is a feature where i can let visitors to open links in a new window or in the same window. I saw a site using link direcotry script and there is this column in the right where one can tick the box and the link will be opened in a new window.

This is very useful as sometimes visitors may find new windows for each link will be frustrating. Currently my site is opening all links in the same window. Would be great if i can have that option.

I got the rssfeed stuff. Appreciate it,

And about meta tags, i do not have a details pages. Instead i put everything on the comments pages. So now my meta tags look like this in wrapper:-

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<IF {TID} contains viewcomments.tpl>
<META name=description content="{LINKDESCRIPTION}" >
<META name=keywords content="{CATDESCRIPTION}" >
<OTHERWISE>
{MAINMETA}
</IF>
<IF {TID} contains displaylinks.tpl>
{CATHEADERINFO}</IF>

Hope this helps someone using comments pages.

Vote.php screwing my hosts server morton82 Hi Wizard,

What i am suggesting is you change webhost. I checked out the siteground.com and think that they are offering too much bandwidth for users. 100 GB is not normal for a $5 monthly plan hosting.

And i used to visit your site and in my opinion, it was loading quite slow even when i am using dsl. This is the servers end problem i guess.

Switch to ipowerweb.com( no affiliation ), I used to host wsnlinks directory there. Costs me 7.90 something a month and my site was loading fast sharing with 64 other websites.

Just my 2 cents.

How to remove the LAST page? morton82 Hi all,

I would like to know how to remove the LAST page. For example, i have 15 pages of links and there is a LAST page at the end which is not using the keywords in the title. Like:-

mysite.com/wsnlinks/books/2
mysite.com/wsnlinks/books/3
.....
mysite.com/wsnlinks/13/15

which the LAST page points to the category 13 which is books instead of books/15.

I am not sure whether this will create a duplicate issue or not or will it make a different page indexing or page rank for google.

Any help?

Meta tag description for links morton82 After thinking a while, i was thinking of only using one sets of meta description. How do you do that, Synozeer? What did you put on the category info header? This is my set of datas for category info header:-

<meta name="rating" content="General">
<meta name="ROBOTS" content="ALL">
<meta name="description" content="My description for this category">
<meta name="keywords" content="keywords, keywords for this category">

But if i use your tactic as perscribed , i get two sets of descriptions.

Meta tag description for links morton82 Nice one Synozeer. Appreciate it.

I put the code and now the html info displays two sets of meta description but i guess it doesnt matter because most spiders will only go for the one on top.

BTW, Synozeer,

i noticed on your site that your rss feed is in xml format. Are you using the rssfeed.php from wsnlinks? If so, how do you convert them to xml format?

Thanks.

Meta tag description for links morton82 Google is using the meta description for details pages. I have pages indexed with the description being used.

I am interested in this also. Tried putting this in the category header info but did not work.

<IF {CURRENTURL} contains link.php?action=detail>
<META name="description" content="{LINKDESCRIPTION}">
<OTHERWISE>
<meta name="description" content="Description for that link">
</IF>
<meta name="keywords" content="Keywords.....">

Maybe something like this in the wrapper:-
<IF {CATHEADERINFO} & {CURRENTURL} contains link.php?action=details>
<META name="description" content="{LINKDESCRIPTION}">
<META name="keywords" content="free,stuff">
<OTHERWISE>
{CATHEADERINFO}
</IF>

Not a programmer for me. Not sure what is the conditional for AND.sad

Moving directory morton82 Hi,

I am thinking of moving my directory from mysite.com/directory/index.php to www.mysite.com/index.php ( with the www and excluding the directory word) which is one place up. What do you guys think?

Does it
1)affect ranking on search engine?
2)Create a duplicate issue if i keep two directories in the same site?

My site has been indexed and others are linking to my subdirectory such as mysite.com/directory/books and so on. If i change the path, will it cause a major damage?

Any comments appreciated. Thanks

feedback section morton82 Hi Paul,

The feedback section works well with the redirect too. However now that the comments have been more than 15 and it has split into 2 pages.

First page - http://mysite.com/feedback.php

Second page - http://mysite.com/wsnlink/thread/1200/2

I tried to modify the custom feedback.tpl and it only shows
<IF {MULTIPAGE}>
Page: {PREVIOUS} <b>{CURRENTPAGE}</b> {NEXT}
</IF>

How can i set the variables so that if multipages are made for the feedback.php, there will be like feedback2.php?
