Deleted links still show in search results |

Not 100% sure if this is a bug or if I have missed a setting that can be changed.
The problem is that deleted links are still showing up in the search results.
If this is a known bug plase point me in the right direction for the fix.
If I am missing a setting to keep deleted links out of the search results I would appreciate being pointed to it.
I would like to add that if I edit/ delete the already supposedly deleted links that are showing in the search results, the link then reappears in the category it was removed from.
