Did you submit the SEO settings page as mentioned earlier? It won't recreate the .htaccess until you do.

All I'm doing is setting Use apache mod_rewrite URL rewriting? to "Yes", and click the Update Settings button at the bottom of the page. Are there any other actions which should be performed?

You need to do the "Rewrite Other Specific URLs:" in the format of the example listed there. Moreover, you can't do categories in that box in a way that logically conflicts with your existing category rewriting, and anyhow it won't change the link used.

With that changed there's nothing wrong with the .htaccess file, but still a 403 which indicates perhaps a problem with the server or a strange set of .htaccess requirements (a few servers require different settings). Ask your host if they support apache URL rewriting.

1. I haven't used the "Rewrite Other Specific URLs" feature at all!

2. The server has full apache URL rewriting support and works flawlessly with phpLD and vBulletin.

3. I've submitted my FTP and WSN Links admin information to you via the script installation request form.

4. After investigating quite a few link directory scripts, I found yours to surpass them all in methodology, versatility, and implementation. I really hope that this issue can be resolved.

1. You did, I removed the URL you put there (which was a Britney Spears category).

2. So, it must do rewriting in a non-standard way. Some servers need +FollowSymLinks dropped, some need other lines changed... I can only make the default work for 98% of servers. I'll try a few random variations and see if one works. If I can't randomly hit on it though, I need an example from your web host.

None of the formats ever required by any of my couple thousand customers works on your server. You have to talk to your web host.

The fact that it gives an "Access forbidden" error may be important. Could be there's some server config which somehow forbids phantom subdirectories. That would explain why http://celebrities-galore.com/classes/ rewrites (to the "no such category" page) while nothing that isn't a physical subdirectory rewrites.

Show your host the .htaccess file, http://celebrities-galore.com/s/ and http://celebrities-galore.com/classes/
