Can it be possible to have a member variable to count the number of comments received on their own links ?

I need to send E-mails to members that have received comments on their links but none of the variables available applies.

Would it be better to count the number of comment received, or only the number of comments by other people (not their own comments)? The latter seems like a more useful stat to me.
