Pending Validations | Listings Awaiting Payment | Listing Sponsorship

[ This is for a Sponsored Listing ]

We do not seem to be able to generate any listings in the "Listings Awaiting Payment" tab - after a listing has been submitted and an email sent with payment instructions.

Our concern is

1 ] that there is no way for Admin to know if - the listing payment information was sent - if Admin was to come back to this after the fact - or a moderator ..
- without going through the email logs.

Is it possible that the listing should change to "Listings Awaiting Payment" when an email - giving payment instructions has been sent.

2] After the lister has submitted the listing - they are immediately able to pay for the listing ...
so if they do this - it does not seem to show up anywhere - that the listing has been paid ..

We tried changing the "unpaid" value in the dbase from 0 to 1 .. it just makes the listing disappear from the Validations waiting altogether.

We would like to not possibly send them an email after the fact explaining how to pay for this listing if they have already done so ...

3 ] also if the lister repastes the email link into their browser - they can keep going to the Pay Here page ...
Is there any way to have be just a "unique" payment - so that someone does not pay more than once for the same listing ???

We just want people to pay "once" ...

Thanks in advance.

Or I guess even more importantly ...

How does the admin know that is needs payment - not just approval ??

Update: We changed the "unpaid" value in the dbase from 0 to 1 ..

and that did it !! ... The listing showed up as "UnPaid" = very nice !!

ok .. so now the question is .. why isn't that happening ... grin

Our first thought was that maybe because we are using WAMP on a local server for testing that we weren't communicating with Paypal correctly ??

.. but if it is a Sponsored Listing .. should not the default value be = "Unpaid" ??

We will check our Sponsorship Settings to see if we have them right ..

Thanks in advance ...

The admin knows it needs payment because it's under the pending payment tab... once paid for it moves to the regular validation tab. In the normal course of sponsorship they're immediately directed to the payment page where they normally pay so there's not normally a reason to send them payment instructions. As for how an unpaid listing had unpaid=0 for you, I can't imagine. I'll run another sandbox test when I get a chance. WAMP and paypal can't possibly be involved, because unpaid should start off as 1 until the payment processes -- a localhost install problem would cause it to stay 1 and fail to become 0.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding you though, because there will in fact be that reversed failure -- unpaid will stay 1 and never become 0 -- when you run it on your computer instead of a world-accessible domain name.

We tried changing the "unpaid" value in the dbase from 0 to 1 .. it just makes the listing disappear from the Validations waiting altogether.

If it had validated=1 and unpaid=1, that suggests the usergroup permission "require validation when sponsored" is off. If you want to hold them for validation after their payment turn that permission on.

Another thought: do you have any unsponsored listing types, or only sponsored? When you have a free type (other than reciprocal), unpaid will be set as 0 and the listing type will be set to the free type until they pay for it, as there seems no reason not to let them have their basic listing while waiting for them to sponsor it.

Paul thanks for the in-depth feedback ...

We will check all our settings etc. and get back with what we find ..
We thought we had only sponsored listing types .. but clearly that could be the root of the problem.

What's that saying measure twice cut once wink

Yes .. You got it ...

We thought .. but we did "not" have it set for all listing types to be sponsored ..

[ we must have been working too late at night on this !! ]

Thank you .. all the listings now correctly going into "awaiting payments" grin

Also .. looks like from what you mentioned that we will not really be able to test the full payment system unless "unpaid will stay 1 and never become 0 -- when you run it on your computer instead of a world-accessible domain name."

Yes we are seeing that ... not showing any payments coming through from the Paypal- sandbox - but when manually enter funds it all looks good.

Thanks again very much

Follow Up with Success and more questions [ of course ] grin

We did go into "Online" rather than LocalHost "Mode" + we dumped the PayPal Sandbox
Instead we used two different Paypal Accounts to test with ..

All worked great - just as you had said it would.

- We did have a question on a difference found if the person submits a new listing and immediately follows the web prompts to pay ...

Scenario - A "Guest" submits a first listing ... and has an account made for them all at the same time ...

[ we are using sponsored listings only ] - their account becomes a member account upon submission of the listing

All Good !

So if the member returns to the site another time + goes to submit a 2nd listing .. but just takes a short-cut and does NOT log in as a member ...
[ which could be quite common and time saving for them ]
[ they would just use their original account email address]

When they use their same email address - it does end up showing the same OWNER ID # [ which is good ]

but the "ownerName" remains blank in this case ... for this listing

and the usergoup also remains as "guest" for that listing ... [ but they are really a member - just not logged in as such at the moment ]

Is that correct ? or should those two fields be updating .. ? Wanted to get your thoughts

Seems this would require additional Admin work to update the "usergroup" etc.

As always .. Thanks in advance and hope that all makes sense ...

PS - and as for our "We just want people to pay "once" ... " thoughts from before .. we see that they will be greeted with an account balance etc. if they do try to pay twice - Excellent !

I'll have it update the ownername and usergroup fields in that scenario in the next release. Note that the listing usergroup field is not normally used by anything though, it's just for if you want to make a toplist of listings by usergroup.

Thanks Paul - This is great news !

We were thinking that the listing usergroup might be useful in customizing some different permissions based on the usergroup level / membership levels.
